My Heart Has Deceived Me
My Heart Has Deceived Me
by Pastor Alan Harris
Jeremiah 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
The Lord says that the heart is the most deceitful thing there is. It is so wicked that no one can understand it. God alone knows the heart and he searches it, tries it, and rewards us according to what He finds.
Can we really listen to our heart? Is it valid to tell someone; “Just follow your heart” when the heart is described by God as “desperately wicked”? What if the deception of our heart leads us down a broad path of destruction?
Only the Lord can truly search the heart and figure it out. He tries the reins of our hearts to see if we are willing to follow His will. If we will choose His way our life becomes blessed however the opposite is true as well.
The bible likens the man who hears the Lord and follows His commandments to the one who builds his house upon a solid foundation. The opposite is also proclaimed for the one who ignores the Word of God. The scripture proclaims that man as one who will fail miserably because he builds his house upon the sand.
Many today cry out in rebellion against the Word of God. They question it’s authority and teaching for their lives proclaiming that the leading of their own heart is good enough. Let us return to a better time when the Word of God was proclaimed and lived as truth in the lives of those who believe in the Living
